3d model description

A tealight holder which reveals a Voronoi pattern when illuminated.
A hushed pattern, a well-kept secret, revealed only by inspiring light from withi...n or from without.

This tealight holder has a 3 mm shell, printable with 2 perimeters, and uses an infill modifier mesh to create a Voronoi pattern sandwiched between the perimeters - thus, you don’t need to worry about overhangs. A semi-opaque white filament reveals the infill pattern when light shines through the tealight holder.

With Cura you can also get a matte effect (and hide seams!) using Fuzzy Skin with a normally glossy white filament.


3d model print parameters

PLA

Prints at 0.15 mm layer height with 2 walls and 100% infill everywhere except for the overlaps with the infill modifier mesh, where infill is s...et at zero. Specifically:

Cura

Add both models, select them, and:
1. right-click - > merge models
2. right-click: arrange all models
3. right-click: ungroup models
Now the models are properly aligned and we can choose settings for the modifier mesh. Select furtive_shroud_modifier.stl, click on the icon with the four items on the left-hand menu, and choose ‘Modify settings for overlaps’ on its top menu (third icon from the left). Then choose the relevant settings and set their values according to the following section for the infill modifier. Some settings might not be visible by default and you must add them manually via the ‘Select settings’ button.

Print Settings:

Wall line count: 2
Top layers: 1
Bottom layers: 1

Infill density: 99%
Infill pattern: Concentric

- Experimental (optional)
Fuzzy skin: checked
Fuzzy skin thickness: 0.15 mm
Fuzzy skin density: 5 /mm

Settings for infill modifier:
- Wall thickness: 0
- Wall line count: 0
- Top / Bottom thickness: 0
- Top layers: 0
- Bottom layers: 0
- Infill density: 0

Prusaslicer

Add furtive_shroud_shell.stl, then add furtive_shroud_modifier.stl as a modifier (right-click at furtive_shroud_shell.stl and select 'Add modifier' -> 'Load...').

Print Settings:
- Layers and Perimeters > Vertical shells > Perimeters: 2
- Horizontal shells > Top solid layers: 0
- Horizontal shells > Bottom solid layers: 0
- Infill > Infill > Fill density: 100%

Settings for infill modifier:
- Fill density: 0%

Project files are provided for both slicers for you to adapt to your printer and filament.
