The Horten Ho-IX (often called the Gotha Go 229 or Ho 229 due to the identity of the chosen manufacturers of the aircraft) was a prototype fighter-bom...ber that arrived late in World War II, designed by the Horten brothers—pioneers in tailless full-wing aircraft and Luftwaffe officers—and built by Gothaer Waggonfabrik AG. It is the personal pet development of the head of the German Luftwaffe, Reichsmarschall Hermann Göring, and was the only aircraft to come closest to meeting his "1,000, 1,000, 1,000" performance requirement: Carrying 1,000 kilograms of explosives a distance of 1000 kilometers at a speed of 1000 kilometers per hour.
