3d model description

Summary

Designed by Bramante, the original architect of St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican, this tiny domed chapel known as the ‘Tempietto’ ...(Little Temple) was built in 1502 in the cloister of San Pietro in Monterio in Rome to mark what was (mistakenly) believed to be the precise spot where St. Peter was crucified.

The model is 15cm. (6 in.) diameter at the base and 18.5cm. (7.25 in.) high.

Instructions

The model is printed in several parts which neatly fit together in the correct positions by means of built-in pegs and slots. Fix them permanently into place with a few dabs of super-glue. (I found Lepage’s Ultra Gel works best.)
I printed all the parts at default settings on my Fifth Generation Makerbot Replicator, and no rafts or supports were needed.
You will need to print a total of 16 pillars. I printed them four at a time as in the attached STL file.
Note that the balustrade is printed upside down.

I found the easiest order of assembly to be as follows:
First trim off any errant threads of plastic.
Start the assembly by placing the Upper Part upside down and glue the pegs on the Lower Part into their slots on the Upper Part.
Glue the tops of the Pillars into the little square slots around the outside edge of the Upper Part, carefully keeping them perpendicular.
Smear some glue around the inside of the Base to fix the Lower Part into position, and put little dabs of glue into the square recesses in the Base where the bottoms of the Pillars will sit. Carefully orientate the centre assembly to the correct position in the Base, (The side by the main door is a little longer than the others, so it can fit only one way round,) and snap into position, adjusting the base of each Pillar to fit into its square recess in the Base.
Put a tiny dab of glue onto the peg at the bottom of each baluster on the Balustrade and pop them into the holes around the outside edge of the Upper Part.
Complete by gluing the Dome into position.

Note that there are some lengthy print times involved. My Makerbot Replicator took the following times:
Base: 4h. 25m.
Lower part: 5h. 45m.
Upper part: 7h. 58m.
Pillars (x4): 0h. 46m.
Balustrade: 1h. 03m.
Dome: 2h. 55m.
