The Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk is a medium-sized, twin-engine, four-blade rotor, medium-lift utility helicopter manufactured by the Am...erican company Sikorsky Aircraft. Sikorsky Aircraft submitted the Sikorsky S-70 design for the UTTAS (Utility Tactical Transport Aircraft System) competition organized by the United States Army in 1972 for a utility tactical transport helicopter. The Army designated the prototype the YUH-60A and, after competing against the Boeing Vertol YUH-61, it was chosen as the winner of the program in 1976. The UH-60A entered service with the US Army in 1978, replacing the UH -1 Iroquois as a tactical transport helicopter.
